Users can now opt in to Google identity on YouTube


You may have seen that we’re allowing the use of one Google-wide identity on YouTube channels.  For partners, you won’t see this just yet. Currently, this option is only available for YouTube account holders with Google+ profiles, which represent individuals, and not for Google+ pages, which represent brands, businesses, and organizations.  

For many partners, Google+ pages are a better fit than profiles, because
  • Google+ pages can have the name of a show or organization, such as Geek and Sundry or Khan Academy
  • They can be administered by up to 50 people, and a single person can administer up to 50 Google+ pages
Once we have the bits ready, you’ll be able to connect a Google+ page to your YouTube channel. If you prefer to use the really awesome personal Google+ profile that you already set up on your channel, we’ll soon allow that for partners as well. Just be aware of the extra functionality pages have (above) that is not available for profiles.

Ok, I get it.  What should I do now?
After we enable partners to use a Google+ page on their channel, we plan to develop more innovative engagement features, like Hangouts on Air, that take advantage of the strengths of both YouTube and Google+. Stay tuned, and we’ll let you know about more opportunities that allow you to use Google+ and YouTube together soon.

  2. Ok, good to know, but: I created a Google+ Profile back when it still was closed beta which by now has around 2000 followers. The question is: Will this profile be connectable to YouTube even though the connected Google Accounts are different?
    The problem is: If not, one had to first build up a now audience for a newly created G+ profile (or page) OR when creating a new channel, to build a new audience on YouTube. Both not good alternatives.
    So it was way better for us if we
    a) could make those old Google+ Profiles pages where we can set the YouTubes Google Account the one administrating it so the page can be connected to YouTube or
    b) if any Google+ Profile (no matter what Google-Account it is connected to) could be connected to YouTube
    or c) be able to make existing Plus Profiles into Pages and connect them with existing YouTube-Channels, no matter the connected Google+ Account was used to create it originally (a mixture of a and b).

    Whil I assume b) was the easiest to do for you, I'd prefer version c). But no matter what, it is annoying that I cannot connect my well known Google+ profile with my YouTube-Channel.

  3. This seems to make it more important than ever to be able to have multiple channels under one identity. What if I want both my makeup and motorcycling channels connected to the same website?

  5. Any chance we will see MULTIPLE-LOGINs for our YouTube Channels?
    When we tie a G+ Page (which can have up to 50 Mgrs) to the Single YouTube channel, now we will have an access issue if there is only one log-in possibility.

    This could be alleviated if there were a primary login (admin?) and multiple manager log-ins to the Single YouTube channel... any thoughts here YouTube?

  6. I love this idea, especially if my YT channel subscribers will bring my Page in their circles. Then I can have a hangout where we can quilt together or I can teach :) This could be really, really fun.

    When I go to http://www.youtube.com/yt/creators/partner.html to apply to be a YouTube partner the "Get Started" link just keeps going back to my Monetization settings page (http://www.youtube.com/account_monetization).

    My videos are already monitized. My vids meet the community guidlines. I have no copyright violations.

    What's going on. There is a new YouTube contest I want to apply for at http://youtube.com/yt/get-promoted/index.html but it says I have to be a Partner.

    Why am I not able to apply for Partner? Any ideas?
