Changing the Channels by March 7

As we shared in December, we want you to have more options for how you organize and showcase your content on your YouTube Channel so you can continue to grow your audience. To that end, we launched a new design for Channels, which allows you to select one of four templates to better fit your needs as a creator, as well as customizations to keep your viewers engaged and coming back.  
In order to provide your viewers with a consistent experience across YouTube, we’d like you to migrate your current Channel to the new design by March 7.  We will automatically convert all Channels on the site to the new design on March 7, so update yours before then to make sure it is set up to your liking.

If you haven’t already, you can opt in by clicking the blue “Try the new design” button on the top of your Channel page. You may also switch back to the old Channels design repeatedly before March 7 by clicking the “Switch Back” button in the appearance tab of the Edit Channel menu on your new Channel.

To help you get your Channel fully ready, we have resources within the Help Center.

Your feedback on the new design has been tremendously helpful as we continue to make refinements to improve both your and your viewers’ experiences.

  1. Are you kidding me? I'm about to close my channel because you are forcing this awful design change on me. And my channel gets about 15000 video views a day. Not only is it ugly; it absolutely reduces our freedom to design our channels the way that suits us. I want my channel exactly the way it is. That would serve my needs. So don't give me any garbage about how you are doing it for me. You are doing it for yourselves and you are telling loyal users like me to go to hell. If you do I will take down my content and sue Youtube if i ever see any of it over here again. BTW, I have about 14 million video views total on my channel. I am not a noob. I have made Youtube a lot of money over the years. But I don't appreciate getting screwed.

    3. what a crck of shite. I have 2 G-mail accounts, yet when i went into YT today to view and comment on a mates vid clip I cant comment unless i create 'a channel'. WTF is this about - whats the point and why should I have to create YET ANOTHER account that spreads my identity and personal info all across the internet when a) i dont want to, b) theres no benefit to me, c) there is no opt out, and d) I cherish my personal privacy and I dont see why i should be forced to open myself up to cascades of spam and shite because someone in a little room somewhere has a shite idea and foists it on everyone, because he / she it too bloody stupid to realise that it is SHITE when its obvious to see theres an awful lot of unhappy people out there.

      Hey YT / Google - OPEN YOUR BLOODY EYES AND READ THESE WORDS. ITS SHITE. I dont want to create a channel. I dont want to upload a vid clip - odd though it may seem - all i want to do is correct an incorrect comment - why is that so hard for you plebs to get their brains round???

      GIVE US AN OPT OUT. I DONT WANT TO BECOME PART OF THE GLOBAL BORGOOGLE COLLECTIVE.

    it's just like the old youtube and ya don't have to be viral to get a banner & a side banner(it does have problems, but that's cause it's very new)!

  5. Guys please let us decide for ourselves, which background we want, there should be an option to switch back and forth.
    Also I found a glitch or bug in the new layout, when you go to any of your
    playlist, in the right side there will be a ton of old information that you deleted a long time ago.
    Even if you change your channel description, It will still remain.

  6. This is all lies. The new layout has nothing to do with giving us more options to customize our channels or to help us grow our audiences. For example, right now we have the option of displaying channel comments on the front page. In the new layout we do not. The old layout allowed transparency. The new one does not. The old one allowed subscribers to watch videos ON OUR CHANNELS; the new one takes them away from our channels. The old one allowed me to show my subscribers on the front page. The new one does not. It goes on and on. Youtube knows this. They know they are reducing our options and making it harder for us to grow our audiences, and they are doing it anyways. There can be only one explanation. They think they are going to make more money this way. They may be wrong. It certainly flies in the face of the idea of the site as a place centered around the user. It used to feel like that, even if it was an illusion. With this, they are dispensing with the illusion and resorting to bold-faced lies and the use of force. We are here to make them money. Our opinions don't mean a thing.

  7. Really irritated that we are missing out on some of my favorite partner features. We will no longer have the side-banner nor the branding box which I used both quite a bit. :( Could we at least get these added back into the new layout? hmm.

  15. The old design allowed creativiyt and individuality. The new design takes away all of that and it is boring. But... I am sure this comment is a waste of time just as telling YT that false copyright claims are being used by bullies to sabotage honest users is. The hidden reality of YT is very ugly.

  16. YOU TUBE will soon be "YOUWHOS TUBE"!!! Is this Googles idea? You Channel, will no longer be You, but Theirs!!!
    Please Mr. Google, make it so we can keep our "OldTube",... hell it's the Classic/Vintage thing to do. Would U change Classic music for Rap, for example? Hell NO...we DEMAND our rights...or we will leave, simple as that (many have already) to ZippCast.com and or other "old skole" video sites, don't let this happen!!! The whole world is watching...why can't we just get along?
    This Dogtor, will NOT operate under your "new" Power Trip!!! And as you have read/heard, there are many against your offencive ideas!!!

  17. okey yotube or who ever came up with the idea of the new layout lets face it, absolutly NO ONE likes the new layout. its so unpersonal and it looks crap. i cant find words do describe how ugly it looks, ppl will be screaming for the old one one week after march 7th and in my opinion this is the biggest downgrade i have ever seen. new isnt always better and this is SHIT. give us the old one back. atleast as optional. bye

  18. People, things change, get used to it. In a couple of years it will change again and you'll be complaning of how you want the channels we will all have on march 7th back. That beight said I would like the feature to be able to add comments to the featured tab, as well as maybe change some of the layout boxes around, but color and design wise I guess we're stuck with

  20. To be Dead Honest. The new design has made it more complicated to express our own designs. Plus, when i DID try the design for a few days, it had errors such as showing i had '263' subscribers, when i had 291. This is a one of the several things i dislike about the new design. Also, We cant be as creative as we did before. Youtube is just simply changing the format, but we cant decide on Text, Text Colors, Show as much Background, Etc.. I strongly recommend leaving the 'Switch back to old design' Option on the other hand. From experience on Facebook, youtube, and other chatting websites, I have noticed lots of disagreements on this new layout and i BEG of you to at least leave the opt out option for those who dislike the new layout. it'd probably save youtube a large amount of people. Forcing the youtube community to change just because YOU think its easier, doesn't make it fair. Its Downright Cruel in my opinion, and youtube is losing my respect slowly... Thank you for reading this far in my vent. It means a lot to me, and it would mean so much to me, and others, if you'd just leave the opt out option on for use to the youtube community, once again.

  23. hey youtube, did you notice that NOBODY WANTS TO BE FORCED TO USE THE NEW BACKGROUND, EVERYONE DISAPPROVES OF IT SO WHY THE FUCK DO YOU WANT TO FORCE ME TO USE IT?! ITS STUPID, MY CHANNEL BACKGROUND IS CUSTOM, AND IT TOOK A WHILE TO MAKE AND YOUR GOING TO FUCK IT UP, I MIGHT EVEN SUE IF I CAN.   24. A feature that is missing from the new channel is the ability to add a video URL as a featured video.

  25. The channel profile information on the right column needs to be moved to an "About" or "About me" tab so that the profile information is in one central location. This also frees space for more content on the channel. Currently, to find the profile information, you have to click on the featured or feed tab, which isn't really intuitive.

  26. If youtube wishes to grow it´s audience , the following may be considered helpful advise.......

    1. I am of the opinion that it might be very helpful that Youtube would be turned to it´s previous form as it was , of 2005.
    2. Members and elected officials of the U.S. Republican and Democrat Parties should in my opinion not be permitted to keep or use youtube.com accounts or features.
    3. No SOPA or PIPA Supporters should be permitted to use or keep youtube accounts.
    4. It´d be good if youtube made it possible like in the past for people to report those channels they wish to report instead of the channel´s profile image or it´s background much like they do on Facebook with Facebook pages.
    5. Youtube should permit people who have closed old accounts to reopen those accounts so that they can terminate permanently any remaining content they think may have been posted by them or in their name , which can still be found on google.
    6. The uploading of video material put on youtube cannot in any circumstances be proved to be a violation in itself of copyright or copyright infringement policies - there is no such thing as 100% original ideas - all ideas are based on other peoples´ideas and that is how ideas are shared.
    7. My mentioning of the U.S. Federal Government does not mean open hostility on my behalf toward anyone or anything - but I believe that past experiences with U.S. Federal Government officials being allowed to keep youtube.com pages , have resulted in a lot of negative events. I
    8. If youtube wishes to make lots of changes - make slow changes , and give your customers choise - make sure that your customers can choose how they wish their channels to look like and how much material or information they wish to be able to keep on their channel.
    10. Make sure that each slow change you make takes like between 10 to 20 months to manifest instead of days or a few weeks.
    11. It´d probably increase the popularity of youtube if youtube was less centralized and if more people ran youtube.

    A channel that represents quality theatre, art & film work.
    The new channel is an insult to every human being that values some form of individualsim.
    You cannot design your own channel looks anymore, welcome to 1984 the conformed world, where everything has to look the same. Did nobody at YT took the time to watch the series Black Mirror?
    Please, do so, you might learn something, you corporate slaves.
    I have already a free VIMEO channel, now I will switch to paid channel to VIMEO, they deserve it: Great design, much better compression and encoding than YT and more respectful community.

  31. Youtube is a joke. what good is having the report background image if youtube wont do nothing about it. also. I hate the new design that we were forced to use. there were a lot of feedback saying that no one like it. what happens, the feedbacks were ignored as usual. if you report for impersonation because someone is using your image. the only email you will get back saying that, We are unable to identify a violation of our Privacy Guidelines in the content you reported (http://www.youtube.com/t/privacy_guidelines). i even proved that is was my image. that youtubes motto we dont do nothing. Youtube workers are useless. they dont want you period unless you are making them money. otherwise they will just flush you down the toilet. i hate youtube. everyone should leave and see if they survive without us. idiots

  32. The new design is very organised and I appreciate the work that was put it into it, but the old design offered more freedom to move parts of your channel where you wanted. It also offered more creativity with your colour and font choices and being able to decide the transparency to see your backgrounds better, for example. Another thing I liked better about the old design was the profile, you could always see everything that was written there without having to click any "more" buttons. Everything in the old design was on one page, which made it easier to see, even though the new design is organised. A lot of people prefer the old design, and a lot of people prefer the new design. Unfortunately, a lot of people have left youtube because of the new design. It would be better for the community if everyone had a choice; to keep the new design or to change back to the old design.
    I hope you take this comment into consideration.
